About every FIRST FRIDAY of the month Filmtheater De Witt screens an English language film or a film with English subtitles. With pleasure we present this to our international fellow-citizens, but Dutchies are welcome too.
On the 11th of June it's a feel-good heist comedy from Germany: Zwei zu Eins (Two to One). The filmstory is (loosely) based on true events during the integration of the German Democratic Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany after the Berlin wall came down.
It's the summer of 1990. East German citizens are given just six days to exchange their Ostmarken for West German marks. Thereupon, childhood friends and lovers Maren, Robert and Volker decide to steal a fortune of almost worthless money from an underground bunker. Together with family, friends and neighbors, they devise a smart plan to convert the money into valuables as quickly as possible, thus outsmarting the capitalists.
Director Natja Brunckhorst presents a light-hearted GDR comedy. It shows the gleefully deranged chaos of a world in transition, with a nostalgic longing for the old GDR. The film was already a great success in Germany and will be introduced by Geert ter Steeg.
Tickets cost € 15,- (1 drink included). Various discounts are valid, e.g. the Cinevillepas and 10x Film Credit. After the movie there will be occasion to meet other filmloving people (local or foreign).
