Synopsis
In a war-torn Rome, Floria Tosca and Mario Cavaradossi live for each other and for their
art. But when Cavaradossi helps an escaped prisoner, the lovers face a deadly enemy
in the form of Baron Scarpia, the police chief. Tosca is at the mercy of the pathological
desires of Scarpia and is forced into an agreement: she must go to bed with the man
whom she hates to save the man she loves. Will she find a way out?
The cast includes major stars such as soprano Anna Netrebko in the role of Tosca, tenor Freddie De
Tommaso as Cavaradossi, and bass-baritone Gerald Finley as Scarpia. For Jakub Hrůša, it is his first
production as the new conductor of The Royal Opera. An alternative, contemporary Rome forms the
background for Oliver Mears' riveting new production of Puccini's thriller, which u
definitely not to be missed.
