On Saturday, May 10, the Dordrecht Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with renowned saxophonist Michel Lamers. It will be a varied evening. The playful, virtuoso and sensitive sides of the saxophone as well as the wind orchestra will be given plenty of attention.
The evening will be a special reunion, as Michel Lamers himself started with the Phil at age 11 on saxophone. Lamers is a sought-after musician in the theater and musical world and plays with several orchestras. In addition to the saxophone, he has mastered the clarinet and flute.
Conductor Jean-Pierre Gabriel and Michel Lamers have put together an attractive program of accessible music for May 10. One of the pieces is the Concert for Alto Saxophone by British composer Ronald Binge (1910-1979), which combines lyrical melodies with playful rhythms. Two well-known works by Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) are featured: the dynamic Libertango and the wistful Oblivion.
The Dordrecht Philharmonic exists 100 years and the various orchestras of the association will give several special concerts this year. In December 2024, the Dordrecht Philharmonic Orchestra won first prize at the five-year competition. With this, the orchestra continues to compete in the first division of wind bands.
The hall is open from 7:30 pm. The ticket price is €15.00 (including coffee and tea). Tickets can be purchased at www.dpho.nl.
