National Park de Biesbosch offers a unique nature experience as one of the few freshwater tidal areas in Europe. This adventurous maze of rivers, water basins and willow forests is located 5 km from the centre of Dordrecht. The Nieuwe Merwede river crosses the nature reserve, so that part of the national park lies on the Eiland van Dordrecht and part in Noord-Brabant. If you are looking for more peace and quiet and greenery, the Biesbosch National Park offers a unique nature experience. In the Biesbosch, you will come across beautiful birds, such as the egret, the grebe, the kingfisher and the bluethroat. And maybe you will see one of the beavers that have built their fortress in the marshes.
Near Biesboschcentrum Dordrecht is a renovated BeverBos where you can discover how beavers live. A treasure hunt through the Beaver Woods is available at the Biesboschcentrum.
The central point is the Biesboschcentrum Dordrecht
The centre has undergone a metamorphosis and from the moment you step inside you will be amazed. You will learn all about the five Biesbosch themes: water, plants, beavers, pilot whales and birds. The five themes each have their own route. By following these routes, you will discover more and more about the Biesbosch.
From the visitor centre, you can walk, cycle and sail. You can book round trips, walking, canoeing and sailing excursions or rent a canoe, whisper boat or sup.
How to get to the Biesbosch?
Als je vanuit Dordrecht de Biesbosch wil bezoeken zijn er meerdere mogelijkheden om er te komen. Het Hollandse deel van de Biesbosch ligt langs de rand van het Eiland van Dordrecht. Vanuit het centrum rijd je met de auto binnen 15 minuten naar het Biesboschcentrum, waar je kunt parkeren. Per fiets is het een half uurtje fietsen of maak er een mooie route van door de Biesbosch. Wist je dat je een (elektrische) fiets kunt huren bij VVV en daar ook prachtige fietsroutes en fietskaarten kunt kopen?
On the Island of Dordrecht, haven't you seen enough of the Biesbosch yet? Then grab a bike from Dordrecht and take the ferry from the Kop van 't Land to the Brabant part of the Biesbosch. There, follow a scenic route and visit the Biesbosch Museum Island in Werkendam.
